History was made recently as Sarah Clarke was appointed as the first female Black Rod in the 650-year history of the House of Lords.  A milestone for Parliament.  Sarah is swapping her role as championships director at the All England Lawn Tennis Club to take on this historic post.   The Black Rod’s role is to summon MPs when the Queen opens Parliament each year.  Famously the door will get slammed in her face.

She will be known as Lady Usher of the Black Rod.
